App: Memento Me

Summary

Memento Me is designed as a private, local-first iPhone app. The app helps you view your life in weeks, months, and years, and optionally uses your Photos library to highlight memories by time period and show countries associated with photos.

Memento Me does not require an account, does not use a custom backend, does not upload your photos to our servers, does not sell personal information, does not share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising, and does not include third-party advertising or analytics SDKs.

Information processed by the app

DataHow it is usedWhere it is stored or processed
Date of birth Used to calculate your current age, life grid, week/month/year numbers, birthday weeks, and life milestones. Stored locally on your iPhone using app storage.
Life expectancy setting Used to determine the total number of weeks, months, and years displayed in your grid. Stored locally on your iPhone using app storage.
App preferences Used to remember settings such as selected view mode. Stored locally on your iPhone using app storage.
Photo creation dates Used, with your permission, to count photos by week, month, and year and color the life grid. Read from your Photos library and processed on your iPhone.
Photo location metadata Used, with your permission, to generate the world map and countries visited insight. Read from your Photos library and processed on your iPhone. Country summaries may use Apple system location/geocoding services.
Photo thumbnails Displayed when you tap a week, month, or year to view memories from that period. Read from your Photos library and displayed on your iPhone.

Photos access

Photos access is optional. If you grant access, Memento Me uses Apple PhotoKit to read available photo metadata, including creation dates and, where available, location metadata. This lets the app color boxes by photo count, show your best weeks, display photos for selected periods, and create a countries visited insight.

You may grant full Photos access, limited Photos access, or no Photos access. If you use limited access, Memento Me can only process the photos you choose to make available.

You can change Photos access anytime in the iOS Settings app.

How the app uses color and memory counts

Future periods are shown as empty boxes. Lived periods are colored based on photo counts when Photos access is available: red for 0 photos, yellow for 1–10 photos, green for 11–19 photos, and a star for 20 or more photos in that period.

No account, no backend, no tracking

Memento Me does not require you to create an account. The app does not operate a custom server backend for your app data. The current version does not include third-party advertising SDKs, third-party analytics SDKs, or tracking technologies designed to track you across apps or websites.

Data collection by the developer

Because Memento Me is local-first, the developer does not receive your date of birth, life expectancy setting, photo library, photo dates, photo locations, photo thumbnails, life grid, best weeks, or visited countries from the app.

If you contact support by email, we will receive the information you choose to provide, such as your email address, device details, app version, and support message.

Legal bases under GDPR

For users in the European Economic Area, United Kingdom, or Switzerland, the legal bases for processing are:

  • Consent: Photos access is requested only with your permission, and you can revoke it through iOS Settings.
  • Performance of a service requested by you: Local processing of your birth date, life expectancy setting, and app preferences is necessary to provide the life grid and app features.
  • Legitimate interests: If you contact support, we may use your message to respond, troubleshoot, and maintain the app, where those interests are not overridden by your rights.

Retention

Local app settings remain on your iPhone until you change them, reset the app, or delete the app. Photos remain in your Photos library and are controlled by Apple Photos and your device settings. If you contact support, we retain support communications only as long as reasonably necessary to respond, maintain records, and protect legal interests.

Your choices

  • You can use Memento Me without connecting Photos.
  • You can choose limited Photos access instead of full Photos access.
  • You can revoke Photos access in iOS Settings.
  • You can delete the app to remove locally stored app data from your device.
  • You can contact us to request deletion of support emails you sent to us, subject to legal and operational needs.

GDPR privacy rights

Depending on your location and applicable law, you may have rights to request access, correction, deletion, restriction, portability, objection, or withdrawal of consent. Because the app data is stored locally on your device and not sent to the developer, many requests can be completed directly on your iPhone by changing app settings, changing Photos permissions, or deleting the app.

To exercise rights related to support communications you have sent us, contact privacy@example.com.

You may also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

California privacy notice

This section is intended for California residents and describes practices relevant to the California Consumer Privacy Act, as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act.

Categories of personal information

Memento Me does not receive personal information from the app in the normal course of use. The app processes date of birth, life expectancy setting, app preferences, photo dates, photo location metadata, and photo thumbnails locally on your device. If you contact support, we may receive identifiers such as your email address and any information you include in your message.

Sources

Local app information comes from you and your device. Support information comes from you when you contact us.

Purposes

Local data is used to provide the app experience. Support information is used to respond to support requests, troubleshoot issues, maintain the app, and protect legal interests.

Sale or sharing

We do not sell personal information. We do not share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. We do not use the app to track you across apps or websites.

Sensitive personal information

The app may process photo location metadata locally if you grant Photos access and your photos contain location data. The developer does not receive this data from the app. We do not use sensitive personal information to infer characteristics about you.

California rights

Depending on applicable law, California residents may have rights to know, access, correct, delete, opt out of sale or sharing, limit certain uses of sensitive personal information, and not be discriminated against for exercising privacy rights. Since the app does not send local app data to the developer, requests about app data are generally handled by managing data on your device. For support communications, contact privacy@example.com.

Children’s privacy

Memento Me is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children through the app. If you believe a child has contacted us and provided personal information, contact us so we can delete it.

Security

Memento Me is designed to minimize data exposure by keeping app data local to your iPhone. You should use your device passcode, Face ID, Touch ID, and Apple account protections to help protect information on your device.

International users

If you contact support, your message may be processed in the country where the support mailbox or service provider operates. The app itself is designed so your core app data remains on your device.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the effective date and, where appropriate, provide additional notice.
