Frequently asked questions

How does Memento Me calculate my life grid?

The app uses your date of birth and selected life expectancy to create a grid of weeks, months, or years. Past periods are filled in, future periods remain outlined, and the current view can be changed at the top of the main screen.

What do the box colors mean?

Future boxes are empty outlines. Lived boxes use photo counts when Photos access is enabled: red means 0 photos, yellow means 1–10 photos, green means 11–19 photos, and a star means 20 or more photos in that period.

Why are some boxes red even after I connected Photos?

A red lived box means Memento Me did not find photos in that time period. This can happen if no photos were taken, if the photos do not include creation dates, or if you granted limited Photos access and did not include those photos.

How do I enable or change Photos access?

Open the iPhone Settings app, find Memento Me, tap Photos, and choose your preferred access level. You can allow full access, selected photos, or no access. Return to Memento Me and refresh Photos from the Insights page.

Does Memento Me upload my photos?

No. Memento Me does not upload photos to an app server. Photo dates and location metadata are used to organize your memories inside the app.

Why is the countries visited list incomplete?

The map and countries list depend on photos that contain location metadata. Some photos may not have location data, especially screenshots, downloaded images, older photos, or photos taken with location services disabled.

How do I change my date of birth or life expectancy?

Open Memento Me, go to Settings, and update your date of birth or life expectancy. The grid and insights will recalculate on your device.

How do I delete my Memento Me data?

Because Memento Me stores settings locally, deleting the app removes the app data from your device. You can also revoke Photos access anytime from iOS Settings.

Does the app work offline?

Yes. The main life grid and local app settings work offline. Some country-name resolution may depend on Apple system services when photo locations are being converted into country names.
